Understanding our surroundings as we interact with them and learning to harness them for our benefit has been part of humanity since the beginning of time– And fibre has been there all along. From the earliest need to protect ourselves from unforgiving cold and scorching sun to the artistic expression it became over the centuries, fibre art has truly been an essential part of human history for as long as we can remember. Today, we admire fibre arts in all their forms, from the functional to the decorative, from the clothes we wear to the textiles that grace our homes. It is a craft that bridges necessity and creativity, transforming fibres into everything from cozy knitted sweaters to intricate fabric paintings that tell stories in every stitch.
In today’s world, understanding the impact of our choices is more important than ever, especially when it comes to something as personal and essential as clothing. With its rapid turnover, wastefulness, and ethical concerns, fast fashion has created a culture of disposable garments that harm the planet, people, and even our health. The good news is that there is a better way forward. Slow fashion celebrates mindful consumption, sustainability, and the value of handmade crafts. Supporting local artisans who create with care, using eco friendly materials and thoughtful processes, not only helps protect the environment but also honors the artistry and skill behind each piece.

We are incredibly grateful to the talented artists who participated in The Art of Fiber, bringing their expertise, creativity, and passion to our community. Each one of them has brought something special to this exhibition, whether it’s knitting, crochet, quilted “paintings”, needle felting, upcycling, or weaving. Their works show fibre arts’ endless possibilities, combining beauty and functionality in every form.
