The Creative Process - Sarah Molnar

Sometimes we find creative flow easily and it feels like we’re on top of our artistic world – inspired and fulfilled by our craft. Then life throws a wrench in the works and things grind to a halt, and maybe we find it hard to see past the frustration and remember why we ever loved such a frustrating thing.

For me, recent firing issues had me considering giving it all up when multiple pieces were ruined when my first home-mixed glaze ran and fused to the kiln shelves, and then when hours and hours of work stalled when the kiln broke down while full of finished work.

My creative community had my back, though, and with reassurance from fellow artists that the learning curve never really ends, and some help from my pottery mentors (shout out as always to Mud Therapy’s Jen and Sean!) and my ever-handy, patient, and supportive husband Greg, I am back on track. I guess as with anything in life, there are ups and downs, creative wins and loses, and if there weren’t some difficulties along the way the final finished beautiful product wouldn’t be so sweet ;)
